Homework

Reading at Home

The main homework we expect in Year 2 is reading at home, ideally every night. This will make a huge difference to your child's reading speed, fluency, vocabulary and spelling.

Those children still following RWI phonics will bring home a paper copy of their current school book, a story that follows on (both to be read by the child) and a picture book to share with someone at home. Children in Mrs Cresswell's reading group will be choosing from a selection of Oxford Reading Tree, Bug Club and chapter books at the appropriate level. Please write in the reading record book to let us know how your child is doing.

Children who have finished RWI phonics (Miss Morgan's group) will now be expected to learn spellings each week. The spelling list will be given out on a Monday and the children will be tested on the following Monday. The first list are spellings that follow a pattern, the second list are Year Two common exception words.  Click here for this week's spellings.
