MANOR SCHOOL

ACHIEVING TOGETHER

Shakespeare

Each term there will be a short presentation for each year group to help explain what your children will be learning this term, share the class timetable, discuss homework and answer any questions you may have. The presentation will last no more than 20 minutes and will be straight after school in your child's classroom.

To help parents who have siblings in different years, each year group will have a different after school session where ever possible.

Monday 17th September - EYFS & Year 1

Tuesday 18th September - Year 2

Wednesday 19th September - Year 3

Thursday 20th September - Year 4

Friday 21st September - Year 5 & 6

After the presentation, any information shared will be uploaded onto this class page.

Welcome to Shakespeare class!

Our teacher is Mr Wicks and our Teaching Partners are Mr Carter, Mrs Costa and Mrs Bayliss.

This term we are learning about Britain during the time of the Tudors.  We will discover the major events of the era and how they shaped the lives of normal Britains.

Each week there will be ten spellings to learn, which will be tested on a Friday.  These will be themed to help make them memorable.  There will be opportunities to lean these in class but they should also be practised at home. In addition, on Wednesdays we will be sending home a Targeted question book for Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, and another one for Maths.  We will direct  specific pages to be completed each week, which shall be communicated on here and to the children.  These should return to school the following Monday.

At the start of each term we shall publish a Topic news letter to keep you informed of any important dates.

Day of the Girl visit to Aureus 11/10/18

To celebrate and encourage females in the fields of science, engineering, art and maths, our year 6 girls experienced a STEAM day at Aureus where they:

  • extracted DNA from a strawberry in a chemistry lesson!
  • learned the meaning of algorithms in IT
  • raced to build 3D cubes out of post-it notes in art
  • experimented with magnets in physics
  • watched a science show with loud bangs and mini explosions!

All the girls had a fun day and were a credit to Manor school. :)

Parents evening!

A letter has gone home today, Friday 5th October, inviting you to make an appointment to come and see me between 14:00 - 17:30 on either Tuesday 16th or Wednesday 17th October.  Please do take this opportunity to come and find out about how you child has started Year 6 and what you can do to support their progress at home.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all properly!

Regards,

Mr Wicks
